Hello everyone, I am Rachel and I am the face of Creations In Cake. As long as I can remember I have had a love for baking. I must admit this is a direct result of my love of eating sweets. I can thank my grandmother Kathrine who always encouraged my sweet tooth with all of the wonderful "goodies" she used to make for our family. Over the years I began teaching myself how bake through experimenting and watching a ton of Martha Stewart.
As a teen I was also became very interested in design and construction. I find I have a great need within myself to be continuously creative. I studied art through highschool and have always been an avid crafter. This led me to the Interior Design program at Georgian College. Although I enjoyed the program I didn't feel like this was the right career path for me.
The following year I transfered to the Hospitality Department and in the spring of 2005 I received a double diploma in Culinary Management and Hotel & Resort Operations from Georgian College. It was a great experience. I learned a lot and had the opportunity to work hands on with so many wonderfully talented people. While at Georgian I was a junior member of the Muskoka District Chefs Association and a competitor on the Georgian Culinary Competition Team.
Although I had always had an strong interest in the pastry arts, I really had an chance to spread my wings with the Competition Team. It was my awesome teacher Bonnie who introduced me to wedding cake decorating, and it was with her guidance that I obtained a bronze medal in the 2004 Toronto Escoffier Society Culinary Salon. I was so excited, I never expected to win. After that I was hooked. I had found a way of incorporating my love of food with my need to be creative and artistic.
Once I began looking into the field of cake design I could not believe what I found. I was completely blown away by all the amazing things that could be done with cake. I spent endless hours learning decorating techniques and getting to know other decorators and learning from them. This little artist had found her medium.
Now I'm living in Owen Sound with my husband and our two adorable sons. I'm also working with a good friend creating delicious and beautiful pieces for the people of Grey county and loving every minute of it. Although I'm still fairly new to the city of Owen Sound I have already fallen in love with it. It's a beautiful city with so many warm and wonderful people. I can't wait to get to know more of you and help you celebrate your life events with beautiful and delicious Creations In Cake.
